Josie Smith woke up one Monday morning in 2012 and had a dialogue with herself: "Hey, you. Stop being a putz and saying you can't ride a bike. You haven't even tried riding for a long time. Stop questioning your capabilities and just try it!" Since that day Josie's life changed drastically. All for the better! She fell in love with cycling and through cycling it made her realize things in life had to change. A relationship ended and surprisingly, a new one began! She found a life partner who loved to ride bikes just as much as she did! She started blogging: Josie's Bike Life and now she works at her partner's bike shop, Decorah Bicycles â˜º

I was feeling too run down this morning to take advantage of the glorious weather. As the day progressed, I made the goal of getting out after work. Time to test my legs on the Procal for the first time this season. Goodness! I forgot how much fun 650b (27.5) wheels can be! Today I felt in control of my bike instead of my bike controlling me. I rode for pleasure and was thankful for the opportunity to ride trails. Also- the Specialized SL Pro jersey and shorts are aaahmazingly comfortable. Also, fantastically beautiful and fun. I basically leave the house feeling foxy as heck. #bikelife #fearlesswomenofdirt #rainbowdash #iamspecialized #dirtchurch

Today I was given a lesson about how I turn my expectation level up way too high for my own good. I was stoked for a ride on this beautiful day and most of it I was feeling down. My legs were heavy, my stomach was off, and I had surprise flubs that threw me for a loop. I added bruises to my collection and pride. I realized that I ride by myself so often; I have plenty of good and bad days on the bike. However, days when I get to ride with Travis (during the busy season) are not as frequent. He has a higher chance of seeing me at either my best or worst. Humble pie, anyone? My ride today wasn't the most glorious in terms of pace or skill, but it was great because I got to share it with someone I love. Let go of perfection and remember to take joy in the slow roll. #notarace #bikelife #fearlesswomenofdirt #iamspecialized #mtb4her

I finally did it and went for my first trail run. It was more entertaining than I thought it would be. I did Luge to Lower Randy to Backside to New Backside and back. I was able to better listen to my body, walk in spots, and stretch. I felt less exposed to the public, which allowed me to just be "me." This will never take over mountain biking, but it was great to be outside, working my legs and lungs while giving my arm and shoulder a rest. It was fun to challenge myself with greasy trails, pick lines, and work on balance. My shoes are officially dirty! #fearlesswomenofdirt #trailrunning #newrunner #strongher #stingorbestung

O'Gara called from the heavens and told me to climb faster. So I did! Upped the average to 8.5 and finished my ride in under an hour and a half. Who knows how Time Trials will go, but at least I know I can give it a solid shot! I will admit to questioning myself and my riding- I think I always battle being too hard on myself. High expectations, perfectionism, and feeling uncertain about my purpose. My purpose is simple. Be an advocate for what I love. Do what I love. Have fun doing it, dabless or not. #fearlesswomenofdirt #bikelife #iamspecialized #esigrips #togs #strongher #stingorbestung
