Josie Smith woke up one Monday morning in 2012 and had a dialogue with herself: "Hey, you. Stop being a putz and saying you can't ride a bike. You haven't even tried riding for a long time. Stop questioning your capabilities and just try it!" Since that day Josie's life changed drastically. All for the better! She fell in love with cycling and through cycling it made her realize things in life had to change. A relationship ended and surprisingly, a new one began! She found a life partner who loved to ride bikes just as much as she did! She started blogging: Josie's Bike Life and now she works at her partner's bike shop, Decorah Bicycles ☺

My dad loved the "grandkitties" and my heart aches that I don't get to see him interact with them. That I don't get to cut his hair or make a half pot of coffee to share. Thanks to my dad, I have been able to bring some joy into my life via bicycles. Especially Dirty Gertie. Thanks to my dad, I am working on something that I am really excited about and have the highest hopes for. (More to come on that later.) The loss of my dad has challenged me these past years to "grow up." It also helped me to evaluate life. #happyfathersday #mydad #happynesslife

The freedom I feel when riding Dirty Gertie is unprecedented. Being able to ride longer without extra strain on my body or mind is wonderful 💖 I cannot sing the praises of the Specialized Turbo Levo SL enough. It's a bike I whole heartedly believe everyone should try. #iamspecialized_wmn #iamspecialized #specializedturbolevosl #itsyouonlyfaster #learntorideagain #specializedambassador

Admittedly I was thrown off my A-game last night. I agreed to give a trail tour to a nice fellow and chose to ride a trail that has a section that I have been 50/50 with as of late. Last night the roots won. I finally experienced what I was afraid of happening for the first time last night and fell down the gully a wee ways. Head first (thank goodness I am flexible!) So many things were running through my head: "Of course I crash in front of a person." "Why did I say anything about not crashing with Gertie yet?" "Why did I go this way?!" "He's going to think I can't ride." What I learned during the ride: 1. Thank goodness the Turbo Levo SL exists because I can lead a ride for a strong rider and have an acceptable pace the entire time. 2. Crashing happens and it will usually happen when you are distracted/nervous/trying too hard. I was all of that because I have a great habit of putting too much pressure on myself. 3. He was genuinely appreciative of having a local to ride with. It was nice to have unexpected company. We had some great conversation and it was awesome to know another human that truly appreciates mountain biking. #bikeshoplife #iamspecialized #specializedturbolevosl #specializedambassador #iamspecialized_wmn #itsyouonlyfaster #turbolevoslexpert

#bikeshoplife We still have some bikes left in size Small and XL. 😳 Ebikes are a HUGE topic of conversation. 👏🏻 We were able to restock our helmet supply to a degree. 👍🏻 Turnaround for service work is increasing daily. 3+ weeks possibly.🤦‍♀️ What surprises us is folks are still willing to leave their bikes. Our shed is continually losing space.🤷‍♀️ We are making some folks happy and we are disappointing others. We are constantly navigating this year as tho it is uncharted territory. It is simultaneously exhilarating and terrifying. It's a dance that flirts between chaos and exhaustion. Work with your spouse in a bike shop during COVID. I am not complaining but I will say that it definitely adds a layer of stress that I think most would rather not deal with.😬😳 Lately I might get out for a mountain bike ride once a week. Weather is a factor, but work is, too. Tonight we closed late helping some grateful folks, all who were kind. I fell asleep on the couch for a bit. I was so, so tired. My eyes and face were tired. I had a headache. My neck muscles were tense. I hurt. I didn't have time to eat lunch. I had 3 chunks of @nubusnacks...thank goodness these exist (and they are amazing btw.) 🥰 These days are challenging for many reasons. There are good moments in them, tho. (Like a new female mountain biker having a great time on an emtb on the local trails!) Times are difficult. There are moments where I want to cry. (For many reasons.) I wasn't sure if I should continue to chronicle #bikeshoplife yet I feel like it's not the worst thing. I want folks who might be experiencing the same to know they are not alone. The riding season is basically shot, but I truly appreciate my rides now more than ever. We have no certainty on what the rest of the season will bring. Nor do we know what future seasons will be like. It's a little terrifying to say the least. #supportsmallbusiness #supportlocal #bikesarentcancelled #iamspecialized #newbikeday #shoplocal #iamspecialized_wmn #specializedambassador
